The Campo Grande athletics team made a splash on the national stage with 17-year-old Max Alves da Silva winning the Brazilian Luteres Caixa U18 Athletics Championship. Max, an athlete from the Funesp Athletics Project (Municipal Sports Foundation), was Brazilian champion in the 800 metres, with a time of 1:52 seconds, a result considered historic for Mato Grosso do Sul.
17-year-old Max Alves da Silva, an athlete from the Funesp Athletics Project in Campo Grande, won the Brazilian title in the 800 meters at the Campeonato Brasileiro Caixa de Atletismo Sub-18, with a time of 1 minute and 52 seconds, which is considered historic for Mato Grosso do Sul. In the same competition, which was held at the Olympic Center in São Paulo, the athlete also took second place in the 400 meters, adding two podium finishes.
